Are you considering me as your artist! Fantastic, and please believe me when I say how thrilled I am, it is always an honour to be considered for this special process.

Here, I aim to provide you with a summary of how I work and help you better understand the process for commissioning my services. I hope to answer some questions you may have and I'm always available for a chat if you wish to discuss anything in more detail.

Firstly, I work with Graphite, Charcoal and Sepia. You may choose from any of these mediums or a combination thereof. I am open to portraying whatever subject you wish, as long as it's tasteful, and I'm willing to undertake drawings from life as well as photographs.

Most of my commissioned work has been conducted from photographs as this works really well when you draw in a photo-realistic style. Choosing the right photograph is key and I can certainly help guide you if needed.

The size of your artwork is also another consideration for you to decide upon and really depends if you have chosen where you'd like your artwork to hang.

The Process:

  1. Initially, I would recommend looking through my 'Commission Questionnaire', which helps me to better understand your requirements and assess how best to proceed with your enquiry. If you feel ready to Commission Me, by all means fill this out as a good starting point.

  2. Once received, we can discuss the various elements to your artwork and your vision to ensure we are both on the same page as far as your expectations are concerned. A suitable fee is usually negotiated at this stage.

  3. Once you're happy to proceed I will request a deposit to secure your booking, usually 25%, and we can discuss the time frame for completing your piece.

  4. Next, we need to choose the best photograph of your subject or theme. Once chosen, I will require a copy in the largest file size available to you.

  5. Once received, I may choose to sketch a rough composition for your approval but this is not always necessary.

  6. Upon approval of the sketch, as necessary, I will begin work on your artwork and you will be notified.

  7. Where possible I try to refrain from spoiling the surprise until completion but progress updates will occur that may include photos of the piece or in some instances, a zoom call.

  8. Changes, alterations and/or additions are allowed along the way and these are assessed during my update. Depending on what changes are requested, a revised fee may be necessary.

  9. When I have completed your artwork I will send you a digital copy of it so you can assess the quality of my work, likeness of your subject and feedback any final alterations you might like to make.

  10. Once any alterations have taken place, this process will repeat until you are completely happy

  11. When the final artwork is ready and approved, I will use a fixative to secure the drawing to the paper and help prevent smudging. (Please note: Graphite & Charcoal are delicate mediums and need to be handled with care, even when a fixative is used one must try not to touch the surface of the drawing)

  12. Depending on whether you have chosen me to frame your artwork or to do this yourself, I will package the artwork securely ready for transit.

  13. Prior to shipping (which is FREE within the UK) I will request the final payment and send you an invoice. Payment can either be made via PayPal or direct bank transfer.

  14. I use Royal Mail Special Delivery for all shipments within the UK and UPS for international orders. A signature is required upon receipt, therefore, I will liaise with you beforehand to arrange a suitable date and time.

And that's all there is to it! Ha ha.. seriously, though, I don't want you to worry as this may seem like a lot of information but I'm here to make this process as exciting for you as possible and will do my best to alleviate any concerns you may have. If you do have any questions, please feel free to give me a call or email and I look forward to working with you.
